Allotment open day
Over the past 6 months we have been busy working away to develop some unused land on the perimeter of the park. The simple concept derived from the need to create a health and wellbeing corner for our tenants, a place to relax, unwind find some headspace, a place to learn and get involved in some fabulous outdoor activities, workshops, and events.
Yesterday we opened our doors and revealed our super Allotment area, already producing fresh seasonal vegetables to our local community, it incorporates six planters, compost recycle bins, water butts, bug hotels and much more.
We were treated to an amazing masterclass from MasterChef winner Gary MacLean. Gary talked us through some simple recipes and demonstrated how we could turn the vegetables growing in our Allotment into mouthwatering dishes, including “Roast Carrot and Beetroot Salad” “Warm Pearl Barley and Roasted Carrots” “Pickled Shallots with Dill Vinaigrette” “Kale and Mushroom Pearl Barley” I can confirm firsthand the dishes were outstanding.
Soon our tenants will benefit from our own onsite Beehives, and can learn invaluable skills, such as Beekeeping, Making Honey, Bees Wax, Lip Balm and Candle Making. As well as masterclass allotment workshops, biodiversity and wildlife sessions.
